I never thought in a million years that I would wear a body-con, one of the most popular articles of clothing, especially in the plus size community. Having my body out there….on display….yeah no thanks. Never been my thing. Body-con dresses are usually tight and somewhat revealing, and showing all of my body has never been my thing. I typically go for loose items. Baggy mom jeans, oversized flannel shirts that are most likely stolen from my husband closet, and men’s denim jackets that I’ve scored from the thrift store. I was introduced to Fashion to Figure sometime back during a conference in Atlanta (I think I mentioned it in one of my most recent post). I knew already that a lot of there clothing was meant to show off “your figure”. So of course I picked out the most non-clingy piece that I could find. “le sigh”
This past week Fashion to Figure reached out to me to come up with three looks that I would wear during the fall using their pieces. Immediately I thought, ok let me find the most “non-clingy” pieces that I can find on this website. But then something said, try something new! Try something that you never would have tried before. I pondered on it, changed my outfit ideas a few times, and then I did it. I clicked send. And just like that, I was getting ready to step out of my comfort zone and wear something different.
Surprisingly, I loved every piece I received. Of course I had to put my own twist on it because I will never wear anything that I hate or that makes me feel uncomfortable just for the sake of wearing it, or because a company asked me too. If it isn’t me, it isn’t me. And I’m ok with that. The first look doesn’t include a body-con dress but rather a body suit. A bodysuit……with the snaps between the legs. Wait…. that means my stomach and my curves will be out there for the world to see. Yep! I put it on with some skinny jeans and I loved it! I said to myself, “Self, you look great!”. I showed my husband and he loved the look. I think the cardigan was the loose non clingy piece that I needed to still make it be me.
The second and third looks are my favorite! And guess what? They are body-cons! The dreaded body-con that I vowed I would never wear. But once again, I made sure to include a non-clingy sweater and jacket to make it more conducive to something I would wear. Once again, I put on these dresses and I loved them! Now….I did order these dresses a size bigger so that they would be more comfortable. If you’re like me and it’s not really your thing, your go too, order a size or two up. It doesn’t have to be skin tight. Pair it with an over sized sweater or denim jacket like I did, make it work for you!
So what are your thoughts? Would you wear a body-con dress or bodysuit?
