The Dashiki Look Book

As of late the dashiki has been making a huge appearance on the fashion scene. Somehow many people gather that this is a brand new “trend”, something hot and “new”. Yeah, no, nothing new here folks. This beautiful, colorful, sophisticated garment first originated in West Africa years and years ago. I think its crazy how the fashion industry rather it be on the runway or in magazines somehow think that they have come up with something new. It’s almost being a little rude and insensitive to it’s originator.

I won’t go on a tangent about that….

The dashiki for a date night? Why yes! Tucked into some mom jeans accented with some strappy chain sandals and a clutch is all you need to complete this look.

Over the knee boots are all the rage for fall/winter. Let’s not forget to add some color with our dashiki . You could even add a leather moto jacket for an evening or day out on the town.

This is the perfect weekend look. Throw on your dashiki for a Saturday full of errands. You’ll be chic yet comfortable.

Wear it to work tucked in with a blazer. Yes a dashiki can be worn to work!

Prints on prints! Don’t be afraid of prints. I added a floral dress under my dashiki along with a pair of cute heels for the perfect look for lunch with the girls.

I really enjoyed styling such a historic African piece for this look book. I wanted to bring across the many ways that you can enjoy this garment. As shown above a dashiki can be worn on a date night as well as to work if styled the right way.

This piece is something that I plan on keeping in my closet for years to come. I’m honestly surprised I’ve never owned one before now.

What are your thoughts? Would you wear a dashiki?
